Frequently Asked Questions
How do trial lessons work?
Trial lessons are 60-minute sessions designed to assess your child's current level and learning needs. During the trial, we'll evaluate strengths and areas for improvement, discuss learning goals, and determine the best teaching approach. Trial lessons are charged at our standard rate, but this fee is deducted from your first month's invoice if you decide to continue with regular lessons.
What subjects do you offer tuition for?
We specialize in Mathematics (including Further Maths), Physics, Chemistry, and Biology across all key stages. We offer tuition for KS3 (Years 7-9), GCSE/IGCSE (Years 10-11), and A-Level including AS and A2 (Years 12-13). We also provide support for IB students where applicable.
How are assessments conducted?
We conduct regular assessments to track progress and identify areas needing focus. Initial diagnostic assessments help us understand your child's starting point. Ongoing assessments include monthly progress checks, mock exams for GCSE and A-Level students, and topic-specific tests. Assessment results are discussed with parents and used to adjust teaching strategies.
What are your fees and payment terms?
Our fees vary by subject and level. Individual lessons are charged per session, with discounts available for block bookings. Invoices are issued monthly and payment is due within 7 days of invoice date. We accept bank transfers and online payments. Late payments may result in temporary suspension of lessons until the account is brought current.
How much notice is required for cancellations or rescheduling?
We require a minimum of 24 hours' notice for lesson cancellations or rescheduling requests. This allows us to offer the slot to other students. Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice may be charged at full rate, except in cases of emergency or illness. We'll work with you to reschedule lessons whenever possible.
What is your homework and assignment policy?
Homework is set regularly to reinforce learning and develop independent study skills. Typical homework includes practice problems, past paper questions, and research tasks. Students are expected to complete homework between lessons, and we review progress at the start of each session. The amount varies by age and level, typically 30-60 minutes per subject per week.
When and how are progress reports provided?
Comprehensive progress reports are provided at the end of each term (3 times per year). Reports cover attendance, topics taught, strengths, areas for improvement, and recommended next steps. Additionally, we provide informal progress updates during parent-teacher meetings each half-term and are available for discussions about your child's progress at any time.
What days and times are lessons available?
We offer lessons Monday to Saturday. Weekday lessons run from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM in one-hour slots. Saturday lessons are available from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM with a lunch break from 1:00-1:30 PM. We try to accommodate your preferred times, though popular slots fill up quickly during peak periods.
Do you offer online or in-person lessons?
We offer both online and in-person tuition options. Online lessons use professional video conferencing tools with screen sharing and digital whiteboards for interactive learning. In-person lessons take place at our dedicated teaching location. Many students benefit from a hybrid approach, and we can adjust the format based on your preferences and circumstances.
How do you track and communicate student progress?
We use a comprehensive tracking system to monitor each student's progress. Parents receive regular updates through our online portal, showing homework completion, lesson attendance, assessment scores, and topic mastery. We also schedule parent-teacher meetings each half-term to discuss progress in detail and adjust learning plans as needed.
What qualifications and experience do your tutors have?
Our tutors hold relevant degrees in their subject areas and have extensive teaching experience. We maintain high standards through continuous professional development and regular training updates. All tutors are DBS checked and committed to providing excellent educational support tailored to each student's individual needs.
How do I get started with tuition?
Getting started is easy! Contact us through our website, email, or phone to discuss your child's needs. We'll arrange a trial lesson to assess current levels and learning requirements. After the trial, we'll recommend a suitable program and schedule. Once you're happy to proceed, we'll set up regular lessons and provide access to our parent portal for ongoing communication.
